TWISTED OBSESSION
5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting multi-layered thriller!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2024
Twisted Obsession picks up the story from Ruth Searle's first novel, No Place to Hide. It starts with a bang when Daniel Kendrick is suffering the horrors of prison life before his trial. The reader is left in suspense as to whether or not he will be acquitted. Ruth skilfully interleaves several gripping plot-lines and creates some nail-biting situations. As the narrative unfolds the tension ramps up and the threads of the plot gradually come together in a dénouement that I didn't anticipate. Most of the action takes place within a hospital setting and the author's medical knowledge is very impressive. This novel will keep you hooked to the end and, if you can guess the perpetrator of several hospital murders, I'll be more than impressed by your astuteness!
4.0 out of 5 stars Another dark and thrilling read

This is the second book in the Daniel Kendrick series.
I actually spotted this book first and thought it sounded great! But of course I just had to grab book 1 first to read in order and you can read my review of No Place To Hide which I posted a couple of days ago.
This book follows on nicely from where we left off in the first and we see Daniel struggling to cope with prison life awaiting his acquittal - although we still aren't sure whether this will happen.
Having read book 1 only a few weeks ago, I fell straight back into this with no problem at all.
I can't really talk about plot beyond the very beginning because there would be way too many spoilers, but I loved the way that there were a fair few plots running around underneath the main story arc.
The author weaves these together perfectly and the tension really ramps up as we follow each thread to its conclusion.
Once again the ending was a shock! I had a few theories throughout, but still didn't manage to work this out or see how this would come together for those final few chapters.
I really felt for the characters throughout this book, although it was hard to really fully connect due to nature of what was going on.
I think this was meant to be and possibly enhanced the darkness of the plot for me. Definitely had me on edge as I sped my way through the pages.
Another great read and definitely an author I'd read more of.
5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted Obsession - A fantastic read from the start!

Here is my review for Twisted Obsession by Ruth Searle
I got into this book virtually straight away when the author described the killer watching their victim dying from a lethal injection. That had me hooked and the book got better from there. Some of the murders were described in detail and Daniel’s incarceration was, also, detailed. It was interesting as it showed detailed research had been done into prison detention and the medical side of things. I loved this book to bits, there was so much to it as I found I couldn’t put it down and I was very invested in the story of Dr Daniel Kendrick and his wife. The writing is terrific and the descriptive writing is first class as so much is explained to you, it’s great. The medical knowledge is fabulous. The plotting is fantastic and really keeps you gripped throughout the book. I enjoyed this book more than I did book one. I hope we get more of this series and that there is another book to follow this one.

Back with Fay and Daniel in the aftermath of the end of book 1. Daniel is on remand for murder and Fay seems pretty normal.
Things do get very dark in this one, especially with Fay and her pyschosis. There were so many people too, who weren't who you thought they'd be.
I did enjoy this - but it did feel like there was so much going on. Trying to rekindle their marriage, walking on eggshells over the chat of another baby, drug trials, new jobs, near death experiences and more.
I still felt I couldn't connect with Fay and Daniel. They felt like they were so disconnected from themselves. But I don't know if it was written that way to make you feel more on edge while reading it.

This book was a wild ride! The author had so many ideas and there were various plot lines throughout the story. She was able to tie everything together for the reader well and developed the characters in a way that you couldn’t help but feel for them- even when they were making poor choices. Overall, I enjoyed it!

This follow up book was better than the first one !! Wow! Many people are not who they portray themselves to be. Who is really the white knight(s) , and who are the black knights??? This was so sad on so many levels. The mental illness, the senseless murders, and all the gorey things one black knight was up to.
It amounted to gross abuse of power and violation of the oath to do no harm. This was a very well crafted spectacular journey to the dark side. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and I am giving an honest opinion.

I am so obsessed with this book! I read it as fast as I could. This had everything I want in a thriller. So much suspense and good twists. One thing that was a little difficult was keeping track of all the POVs. But I still loved it!

NO PLACE TO HIDE is a gripping thriller that follows a few different storylines and different perspectives which all connect to each other in some way. It wasn’t too hard to keep up with the different perspectives for me and I really enjoyed reading about all these characters and how all their dark secrets connected somehow. This was a really enjoyable thriller and I don’t want to give too much away but would definitely recommend this! I think this is also going to be a book series which is really exciting and I can’t wait to read the next book!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This thriller was pretty good! At first, it was a little confusing with all the characters and the timeline jumps, but once you get it figured out, the story line is great. It doesn't take long to find out how everyone is intertwined. I liked that there really weren't any slow spots in the book because it made it hard to put down. I also enjoyed that there were several plot lines running on top of each other but that all came together in the end. All in all, a great thriller.

No Place to Hide - Ruth Searle
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the eARC of this uniquely captivating thriller.
Before their child was murdered, Daniel and his wife led a relatively pleasant, if not charmed, life.
However, after the loss of their child, Daniel quickly discovers was only the first (albeit the most brutal) cruel card that he would be dealt by fate.
Daniel watches the successes he has worked so hard for flow out if his hands like water, before he has an opportunity to rally and regain them.
First, after the murder that began this downward spiral, Daniel loses his marriage almost immediately as it could not survive the death of their only child. Next, Daniel's life's work an identity as a surgeon falters...
Intrigued? Wait until you read what happens next!
Until next time...

It was a fairly nice thriller!
With so many characters and time hops at first, it was a little confused, but after you figure it out, the plot is fantastic.
I couldn't put it down once I started into it.

His daughter's dead, his wife's gone missing and there's a serial killer on the run. Daniel Kendrick must face the truth – and there's no place to hide...
For a debut novel this is definitely one that grabbed my attention from the very beginning. If you like your books about serial killers this is one that I can highly recommend. I must say my initial thought was oh no, not another serial killer book but I took a chance on this one and was very glad I did
I found the book a little slow to begin with and there were a couple of places where my attention may have lagged but all the parts in between more than make up for it. There are a lot of characters and in the beginning I was trying to understand how all of them could influence the story but they all play their part and it works very well. The main story once it gets going moves really quickly and I was then totally invested in the story. Lots of twists that keep you engaged and just the right amount of tension lurking in the background at all times.
This is a fabulous book and one I would recommend to other thriller readers. After reading this book I will be looking forward to other books of this genre by Ruth Searle. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.
5.0 out of 5 stars Many Puzzle Pieces Coming Together to Solve the Puzzle
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 27, 2023
This book was the first book I have ever read that jumped from narrator to narrator and this book did it in a great way! I was extremely impressed with how easy it was for me to follow along to the jumps especially since it was different chapters. This book was a very good book that had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. Due to the author's medical profession background, there was medical jargon throughout the book that I knew, thankfully, due to Grey's Anatomy. I only noticed 1 typo and 1 spelling error; but neither of those took away from the storyline.
Daniel and Fay suffer a great tragedy that almost breaks their marriage. Then, tragedy strikes again. This time, Daniel is the number one suspect. Follow Daniel and the other moving parts to find out how they all come together as pieces of the puzzle to solve that tragedy.
This was a great read!

Not my usual genre but this book caught my imagination. I certainly didn't see the ending coming although I thought I was on the case for a while.
The author evidently has considerable insight and medical knowledge which makes the narrative believable and the ability to build suspense incrementally to keep the reader hooked. I can't begin to imagine where the next book will lead ..... Watch this space 👍

No Place To Hide is one crazy read.
From the start, you’re introduced to many different characters. You start to wonder what part they’ll play. The pacing of the story is good. There’s a couple of lulls but not enough to take away from the story. After a certain point, the story takes off and you’re hooked! You’re rapidly turning the pages, something big is building up. You don’t know how it’ll end and then BAM! All the pieces come together and it’s mind blowing. I didn’t see that ending coming. Nice. This is a great and entertaining read. If you’re a fan of thrillers and serial killers, this book is for you! This is my first Ruth Searle and it won’t be my last. I give this 4 stars.

Okay, so what we have here is a long, slow burn that continually builds your frustration and hatred toward the antagonist ... but that payoff at the end is worth it. The book if full of authentic medical terms and such, well worded and used thanks to the author's history in the medical profession. As an American reader, I found a lot of the references and quite a bit of the phrasing very interesting. Anyhoo, I liked it. I say, give it a try.
