5.0 out of 5 stars 5/5 - A must read for fans of psychological thrillers.

I have an extremely vivid imagination! When I at home alone in the evenings I hear every creak and even slight noises make me think a crazy axe murderer is coming to get me. Perhaps I am just paranoid or a bit of a wimp but either way when I read a book like this I can picture it in my head so realistically that it makes my skin crawl!
The main character is Reverend Lucas Wheelan, a cold and disturbed killer and alcoholic who has lost his faith. He is different from killers in other psychological thrillers because he does have a conscience and is a complex character that I couldn’t help feeling empathy for even though I didn’t want to.
The heroine of the story is Jenny, a nurse, who after a messy divorce wants to follow her dream and move to Wales. Having moved to a new area myself when starting a new job I can completely understand her trepidation at moving to a village where she doesn’t know anybody.
The prologue of this book is one of the most chilling I have read and got me hooked right away. It is set 27 years earlier and features Helen who traumatically gives birth to her daughter and is then brutally murdered. I do wish that Helen’s character could have been explored a bit more as it is not clear why she has been raped and why she has no family or friends to turn to. Even this couldn’t detract from this fantastic book. Gripping, dark and chilling!
I understand that there will be a sequel called Broken Mind released later this year. I will be avidly waiting to read this and any other books that this author writes. A well deserved 5/5 from me
5.0 out of 5 stars A Great “Keep You Guessing” Read

Broken Mirror is a psychological thriller set in Wales. It is a story about a crime committed by an unlikely perpetrator, Whelan, who then tries to cover his tracks. When the one person who knows his secret, and who he is most frightened of, dies he thinks can finally relax, but can he, or will he have to commit another crime? The author takes us on a thrilling journey as a new-comer to the village inadvertently presents as a threat who could uncover Whelan’s dark secret.
Page turning suspense and unexpected plot twists kept me guessing right until the end. However, I’d expected more depth in the development of the plot and more drama, but maybe that’s been saved for future sequels. This is not a bad thing though as it makes the book a good quick “anywhere, anytime” read. Don’t be scared to take it to bed with you either - it won’t give you nightmares! The author’s interpretation of near-death experiences was interesting and certainly food for thought. He may have just unveiled the solution to life’s problems!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Broken Mirror.

When I first picked up this book I wasn't too sure about it. There are a lot of psychological thrillers out there and a lot of them are sort of vanilla. Broken Mirror threw all of my concerns out the window once I jumped into it. And jumped in I did! Man, was this book addicting to read, I finished it in a week. A really engrossing plot that kept me coming back for more. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because I wish it was longer.

Starting with a full and engrossing description of a terrified, lonely woman going through the final traumatic stages of life, birth and death, you then learn in tandem the backgrounds of the story's two main characters (in such detail that you really get inside them - and they, inside you!).
An excellent psychological thriller that has a great story with crisp writing throughout and leads to an open-ended conclusion, allowing for a much-anticipated sequel. I highly recommend this book if, like me, you prefer character-driven tales that make you double-check the locks on your doors and windows before you retire for the night.

This book starts out grabbing your attention and this is only the prologue! It slows down a bit after that but then picks back up again. I was always trying to figure out how the people were connected. This web of people, tangle and mingle and it was fun trying to guess who they were and the roles they play in each others existence. There is murder, lies and enlightenment. I really enjoyed it. This book is definitely pg-13 and there were a few errors. However, this did not hinder my overall enjoyment of this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read

A storyline is only as good as the author crafts it to be and Oliver Rixon has created a very fascinating storyline in her book Broken Mirror. As a person who is often a step ahead of the author in terms of plots, I was left pleasantly surprised by my incapability to guess what would happen.
The characters are well developed and dynamic, which allows them to be believable. The plot is structured beautifully and precisely, which moves not too slow and not too fast. All details included only enhance the reader’s understanding and nothing unnecessary is included. It’s clear that the author has created a work of art and Broken Mirror could not have been written in any other way.
Whilst reading, there are loose strings floating around everywhere, leaving questions hanging and avoiding answers. The end ties everything together so perfectly that you realize the strings were left intentionally. The ending is surprising in itself and allows for further deep thoughts. This is a book which could easily be analyzed.
It’s well worth the price considering the fact that I will be re-reading this in the future. I would recommend this book to people who love psychological thrillers as this book is simply that. I’d give this book 6/5 if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read!

Psychological thrillers are an interesting breed when it comes to books. They’re supposed to focus on the emotional state of the characters and bring the reader into the darkest, deepest depths of a character’s psyche. I felt like the author really did this through vivid imagery and by showing how the characters felt through actions and verbal communication. The author weaved a nice tale that was easy for the reader to follow and the characters were likeable.
Despite not having gone through a rough breakup or divorce myself, I was easily able to empathize with the main character from the beginning. The bad guy in the story threw me for a loop by the end, but I must say I liked it. The side characters were developed enough that I felt for them when something happened, but they didn’t take away the spotlight from the main story.
Overall, a very good read and well worth the money spent.

I thought that this book needed some polish to make it a great book. There were some grammatical and typographical errors, as well as some areas of the story that did not flow well from one section to the next. I thought that Wheelan, was somewhat unbelievable as a character. He seemed evil at the beginning, capable of doing harm to anyone in his path, yet he could not bring himself to kill Morgan in the end. For someone as evil as he seemed, it did not ring true to me. I thought it was an interesting read with some great ideas, though, and look forward to reading the sequel.

I really enjoy watching psychological thrillers, but don't always like reading them since they are often really cliche. I was pleasantly surprised by Broken Mirror. This is a well crafted book and the opening scene is one of the most bold and engulfing scenes I've probably ever read before. Once you've read yourself, you'll understand this is no exaggeration. As some other reviewers hint, there is a unique theme with two characters entwined mystically. At first I didn't understand what I was dealing with and whether it was a psychic, reincarnation, or something else. That really added an interesting level to this story. The evil character was really menacing and as I read I really felt for the heroines. This book gets a strong recommendation from me.
